Artist Statement

The North Coast Theatre was founded in 1994 to perform original, experimental work with an ongoing ensemble of theatre professionals who share common goals and a common aesthetic, to bring new and innovative theater to audiences who might otherwise not experience it, and to reflect concerns and issues of importance to its own community through the pleasure and engagement of theatrical performance.
In addition to this Mission Statement, our focus is on the relationship between the actors, the audience, and the script. Our production values are simple.

Artist Bio

For our first ten years, NCT made our home at the Toledo Museum of Art, where founding Artistic Director/playwright Christine Child wrote brief scripts to be performed in specific galleries or for visiting exhibits, including the Michelangelo exhibit, "Treasures from the Casa Buonarroti" and the Van Gogh "Fields" exhibit . In 2004 we began to perform brief plays in branches of the Toledo/Lucas County Public Library. These plays were written by Child to make reading look attractive to children. In 2008 we moved into our new home at historic Oliver House.
